As a toddler grows, the most relevant question that arises is how to teach a child effectively. The brutal truth about motivating kids to study is simple, that someone does not create these motivations keeping equality in mind. Teaching how to make a child study independently can be strenuous. Most outstanding students are not good learners and are absorbers of knowledge. Individual personality of your child plays a big role in determining a child’s learning process. With the right motivation and basic aptitude to grasp the pointers, they can teach effectively a child.
However, in these times, limitation to the set curriculum and four walls of a classroom, is not enough to enhance the creativity and learning process of children. A holistic learning targeted at certain intellectual, social and academic aspects plays a significant role in enhancing a child’s desire and ability to learn.
How To Teach A Child Effectively For A Better Future?
The following set of strategies can prove to work like a magic wand to nudge your child in the right direction.
1. Help your child enjoy the learning process instead of controlling
First things first, if your child doesn’t enjoy what he does, he’d disengage from the said activities over a period. It’s unnecessary at an early age to decide if your child should be a doctor or an engineer, rather let your child fly and attract what potential he can realize. The initial goal is not to become someone, but how to motivate kids to study. Therefore, let loose and see the wonders along the way.

2. Internalize the importance of learning
As a child in the early ages, inculcate the duty of learning. Diverse play time learning could be your first choice to prove the significance of learning and knowledge. Home is the first school for your child. So, the simplest way is to act the way you wish your child to be. This is simply because you, as a parent, are your child’s first role model. From motivating your child to work to educate to succeed, it’s a lifelong process of learning and re-learning how to motivate children to study.
3. Let your child sit in the driver’s seat
It is important for your child to realize, when it comes specifically to education, that control is essential. Let your child pick the books he wishes to read and explore how to motivate a child to do homework. Let your child develop a relationship with learning as a lifelong process on his own. Inculcate experiences daily that let your child decide for himself. In education, provide your child with options to explore learning. It could be as little as writing a project by himself to select what he wishes to write about. Letting your child sit in the driver seat from time to time not only boosts your child’s personality but also gets him in the right direction of embracing learning.

4. Encourage open communication
Open communication is significant to a child’s growth and building trust between you and your ward. Sincere communication in an open atmosphere can go a long way in validation of feelings and sharing opinions, and how to motivate a child to write those emotions. When children know they are heard and understood, they engage with the learning process in the most fruitful manner. Your child can grow into a good learner and feel reassured regarding a good educational experience with no judgements or ignorance of parents or guardians.
5. Introduce and imbibe varied mechanisms of learning styles
Every child is unique. Not only how he sees the world, but also how he captures his learning experiences. While some students follow the dominant learning style, others thrive in a conducive environment based on experiential learning. There is not a single correct learning style or a mix of those learning styles. However, with an introduction to various mechanisms that can improve the learning, you can help your child realize his true potential. With seven fundamental learning styles visual, verbal, physical, social, solitary, auditory and logical, there’s a lot that can be explored. You’ll have to let your child figure out what works best in his favour.

6. Focus on the learning and not the performance
We live in a society where we are continuously pestered to give in to the analytics of performance. From the maths test to the cumulative GPA, from an early age, we bind our kids in a vicious cycle of achieving an “acceptable” grade. How to develop an interest in study for preschoolers is another avenue of focus. Instead of asking your child how much he achieved in the maths test, ask him what he actually learnt from the test. It is very important to focus on learning compared to performing. Focusing on the learning experiences while communicating with your child the actual learning is indispensable instead of the test grades. Teach your child the relevance of learning experiences in life and that showing up is a great virtue to withhold.
